Netflix vs Amazon Prime Video vs JioHotstar: Which Should You Choose?

August 16, 2026 · ShareOTT Blog

All three are worth having for different reasons - they're not really competing for the same use case. Here's how they actually differ, so you're not paying for overlap.

Netflix: originals and international content

Netflix's strength is its original series and films - internationally acclaimed shows, K-dramas, documentaries, and a deep catalog of Bollywood and Hollywood movies. If you mostly watch scripted series and films rather than live TV or sport, this is usually the one to prioritize.

Amazon Prime Video: movies and Amazon Originals

Prime Video leans toward a large movie catalog and its own Amazon Original series, with live sports coverage on top. It's a strong pick if movies are your main use case, and it comes bundled if you already use other Amazon services.

JioHotstar: cricket, Disney, and Star TV

Formerly Disney+ Hotstar, JioHotstar is the one to have if you follow cricket - IPL and other live matches are its biggest draw. On top of that it carries Star TV serials and Disney/Marvel movies. If sport is a dealbreaker for you, this is non-negotiable regardless of what else you subscribe to.

So which one should you pick?

Official pricing for each platform runs high when you subscribe directly - a full-price Netflix plan alone runs into the thousands per year. ShareOTT's managed shared accounts bring each of these down significantly: see current Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar pricing, or compare everything on one page at Pricing.
